In 2026, hiring proven GTM talent from India costs roughly 40-60% less than the equivalent US hire. An experienced SDR runs about INR 8-14 lakh (USD 9,500-17,000) a year; a mid-market AE about INR 18-30 lakh (USD 21,000-36,000); an enterprise AE INR 30-50 lakh (USD 36,000-60,000); CSMs, account managers, RevOps and demand gen sit in between. Contractor monthly rates for an experienced GTM hire run roughly USD 1,500-4,000. The same person costs a US employer two to three times more once benefits, payroll taxes and overhead are loaded in. The tables below break it down by role.
How GTM comp is structured in India
India quotes pay as an annual CTC (cost to company) in lakh, where one lakh is INR 100,000. For revenue roles, the base/variable split is usually less aggressive than in the US, often 70/30 or 75/25 rather than 50/50, which makes total cash more predictable. The figures below are total target compensation (base plus on-target variable) for people who already sell into or support Western buyers. USD equivalents use roughly INR 83-85 to the dollar and will shift with the exchange rate.
India GTM compensation by role (2026)
| Role | Base (INR) | OTE / total (INR) | Total (USD approx) |
|---|---|---|---|
| SDR / BDR (1-3 yr, US accounts) | INR 6-10 lakh | INR 8-14 lakh | $9,500-17,000 |
| AE - mid-market | INR 12-20 lakh | INR 18-30 lakh | $21,000-36,000 |
| Enterprise AE | INR 20-32 lakh | INR 30-50 lakh | $36,000-60,000 |
| Customer Success Manager | INR 12-20 lakh | INR 14-24 lakh | $17,000-29,000 |
| Account Manager | INR 14-22 lakh | INR 18-28 lakh | $21,000-34,000 |
| RevOps | INR 16-28 lakh | INR 18-32 lakh | $21,000-39,000 |
| Demand Gen / Growth Marketing | INR 14-26 lakh | INR 16-30 lakh | $19,000-36,000 |
For non-quota roles like CSM, RevOps and demand gen, the variable component is smaller (often a 10-20% bonus), so base and total are close. For quota-carrying AEs, OTE assumes target attainment; over-performers earn more.
India vs US: the side-by-side
This is where the case for hiring from India becomes concrete. The US column is fully loaded total cost to the employer, including the rough 25-35% you add on top of cash for benefits, payroll taxes, equipment and overhead.
| Role | India total (USD) | US loaded total (USD) | Saving |
|---|---|---|---|
| SDR / BDR | $9,500-17,000 | $70,000-110,000 | ~55-60%+ |
| AE - mid-market | $21,000-36,000 | $130,000-200,000 | ~50-60% |
| Enterprise AE | $36,000-60,000 | $220,000-320,000 | ~50-60% |
| Customer Success Manager | $17,000-29,000 | $90,000-140,000 | ~50-55% |
| RevOps | $21,000-39,000 | $110,000-170,000 | ~50-55% |
| Demand Gen | $19,000-36,000 | $100,000-160,000 | ~50-55% |
The savings are even larger than the headline cash figures suggest. A US hire carries health insurance, 401(k) match, payroll taxes, paid time off and office or equipment overhead on top of salary. An India contractor's rate is most of your all-in cost. That is how a 40% cash gap becomes a 55-60% total-cost gap.
Contractor monthly rates
If you engage someone as an independent contractor rather than computing an annual CTC, you will negotiate a monthly rate. As a rough guide for 2026: an experienced SDR runs about USD 1,000-1,800 per month; a mid-market AE about USD 2,000-3,500 (plus commission); an enterprise AE about USD 3,500-5,500; CSMs, RevOps and demand gen roughly USD 1,800-3,500. Senior specialists and team leads sit above these bands. Contractors handle their own taxes, so the rate is close to your true cost.
What drives the cost
- Seniority and proof. The single biggest factor. Someone with a track record of hitting quota into US accounts commands the top of each band, and is worth it.
- US/UK market experience. People who already know Western buyers, sales cycles and objections cost more than domestic-only candidates, and ramp far faster.
- English and communication. Polished written and spoken English for client-facing roles is a real premium, especially for AEs and CSMs on live calls.
- Tooling depth. Hands-on Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, Salesloft, Gong or Gainsight experience raises the rate, particularly for RevOps.
- City. See below.
City differences
Cost tracks the local market. Bangalore is the most expensive and deepest pool, especially for senior SaaS sellers. Gurugram (Delhi NCR) and Mumbai are comparable. Hyderabad and Pune typically come in 10-20% cheaper for similar experience, with strong inside-sales benches. Chennai tends to be the most cost-efficient. Because the work is remote, you can often source from a lower-cost city without sacrificing quality, which is one of the easiest ways to optimize spend.
Total-cost considerations
The role's pay is most, but not all, of what you spend. Budget for:
- EOR fee if you employ via an Employer of Record, roughly USD 200-600 per person per month.
- Tooling seats for CRM and sequencing, the same as any rep.
- FX buffer for exchange-rate movement on multi-year budgets.
- Payment-processing fees on international transfers (usually small).
Even with all of these added, the total stays comfortably 40-60% below the US equivalent.
These ranges are 2026 market estimates for talent that sells into or supports US and UK buyers; actual numbers vary by company, city, seniority and individual track record. Treat them as planning benchmarks, not quotes.
